What happens in a Newborn Shoot? KLR Photography, Newborn and Baby Photographer, Chelmsford, Essex.

Updated: Mar 6, 2020

What to expect, what to prepare, and when to have your Newborn Session.

There is nothing more precious than welcoming a baby into the world. Those first few moments with your baby you will always remember. Those squishy little lips, sparkling eyelashes and dainty little feet are something you will want to cherish and hold onto forever, as they really do grow up way too fast!

I feel so fortunate to be able to capture these precious memories for you, and every single newborn I have in my studio holds a special place in my heart, I just adore them!

So, what to prepare.. The best thing to do would be to book your newborn session when you are pregnant so you are able to book a tentative date, believe me if you leave it to when little one arrives you may not be able to guarantee a slot and that time really does fly, you don't want to miss the small window you have. Newborns sessions are best when baby is 4-14 days new. This is when they are still comfortable to be in that curled up foetal position and super sleepy. That being said I wouldn't turn you away if baby is passed this stage, we would just tailor your shoot to your baby and the poses may differ slightly. So once you have booked your tentative date you have confirmed your session, then once baby makes an appearance please do get in touch so we can plan a convenient time for you to come in.

The session should usually last between 2-3 hours, but it is very much 'baby led', I like to create stress-free environment where baby is comfortable and you are too! We will discuss your preferences when you arrive and discuss colour options. Ideally we want a sleepy baby, not a wide awake baby that has just woken from a lovely deep sleep, so do your best to keep baby stimulated prior to the session so when they arrive we can do a feed (if required) and then baby will fall into a lovely deep sleep (if we are lucky!)

I have a private room for feeding, and we will take regular breaks for feeding, changing and cuddles!

We will focus on the baby for the majority of the session, but I also welcome sibling & family shots! Even if you think you don't want to have your photo taken, come prepared for us to take some shots together, it's so lovely to have family shots together, something not only for you to cherish, but also for your baby to have some pictures with mummy and daddy!

After the session, I will send you an online gallery (within one week) for you to select your images. You also have the option to purchase prints, albums and wall art.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to meeting you!
