My first shoot in my new studio!

I had my first shoot in my brand new studio and lucky for me it was not a complete disaster! It was a birthday shoot, for a special little lady, Francesca Palmieri. We had a shoot almost a year before, when little Francesca was only 4 months old, this was a home shoot using natural light, back when I was a mobile photographer and visited my clients' homes.

When Francesca arrived to the studio she did seem a little uneasy, sometimes being in a new environment can be hard, so I didn't want to rush her. It is important she had the time to get used to their surroundings and feel comfortable. I am fortunate enough to have a separate area from the studio where babies can play with their own toys that they have brought along or some of my toys. I want the experience to be enjoyable and relaxed, not in and out the door! This also gives me time to chat to the client about what we are going to do and if they have any special requests.

After having a chit chat with mum, Sarah and Nanny, Diane, Francesca started to show some intrigue into the studio - perfect opportunity to get started! We began with a beautiful birthday tutu dress, some simple bunting and of course, Francesca's favourite bunny! We actually decided not to do a cake smash for this shoot, Francesca has had lots of allergies since being born, so it just wasn't worth the risk! We had plenty of other shots to do minus cake anyway.

We then moved to the wooden backdrop. This was actually made for me by my dad! I had been searching for one for a while, but nothing was the right colour or type of wood, I absolutely love this backdrop, it is so beautiful for newborns and babies. This one we went for the tutu nappy cover & pearls, nice and simple, focusing on baby's expressions.

The final set up was the bath tub! This bathtub came from France and I absolutely love it, perfect for a smash and splash session! Unfortuantely, Francesca wasn't loving it as much as me! We let her splash around a little but she wasn't feeling getting in, so we knew not to push it. But the shots really did turn out perfect and I am so happy we were able to create some stunning shots of this little cherub!

Just shows that 1st Birthday shoots don't always need to include a cake!
